Bangladesh U-20 football team faces Uzbekistan in Asian Cup qualifiers
The Bangladesh U-20 national football team is set to face Uzbekistan in their opening match of the AFC U-20 Asian Cup qualifiers at the Dostlik Stadium in Tashkent.
Coach Gerard Jones expressed confidence in the team's preparation despite missing opportunities to play international friendly matches against the UAE and Indonesia due to visa complications. Instead, the squad completed ten preparation matches, including six undefeated performances against foreign opponents. Jones noted that while Uzbekistan is a strong side known for ball control and high pressing, the coaching staff has identified potential weaknesses to exploit.
Internal tensions were also addressed following reports of a dispute between head coach Gerard Jones and assistant coach Atiqur Rahman Mishu. Team manager Samid Kashem stated that the staff has moved past the disagreement and is focused on the upcoming match.
