Bangladesh youth can meet national blood demand through annual donations

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor ABM Obaidul Islam stated that Bangladesh’s youth, who comprise approximately 28 percent of the population, could meet the national blood demand if they commit to voluntary donations at least once a year.

Speaking at a ceremony organized by the Quantum Foundation to honor voluntary donors, the Vice-Chancellor described blood donation as a practical expression of patriotism and social responsibility. The event, held at IDEB Bhaban, recognized over 300 donors with certificates, crests, and medals based on their frequency of donation.

Data shared during the event indicated that Quantum Lab has established a donor pool exceeding 550,000 people. Between 2000 and August 2026, this network provided blood and components that assisted in saving more than 1.8 million critically ill patients. Recognized donor tiers included 196 Platinum donors (50+ donations), 3,138 Golden donors (25–49 donations), and 13,083 Silver donors (10–24 donations).
