Bangladeshi nationals detained in Bengaluru moved to West Bengal for deportation

Thirty-one Bangladeshi nationals detained in Bengaluru during a crackdown on suspected illegal immigrants have been transferred to Malda, West Bengal, to begin deportation procedures. The group was transported from Bengaluru to Malda under the surveillance of 20 Karnataka Police personnel and subsequently handed over to West Bengal authorities.

The detainees are currently being held at the Karma Tirtha Holding Centre in Malda. Following the completion of legal formalities in coordination with West Bengal officials, the individuals are expected to be handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) for pushback to Bangladesh.

The arrests were part of ‘Operation Mukta’, a statewide initiative by Karnataka authorities to identify and detain undocumented foreign nationals. During this operation, police verified the documents of 2,944 individuals and identified 105 suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. The 31 individuals arrested in Bengaluru were reportedly found without valid documentation to establish their legal status in India.
