The Ministry of Education and Culture of Republika Srpska has ordered a seven-day suspension of classes in all primary and secondary schools from September 4 to September 11, 2026. The decision was made due to extreme heatwaves and inadequate cooling conditions in many classrooms, which posed health risks to students and staff.

In response to the weather, the government also announced a one-time financial aid package for students to alleviate the costs of the new school year. Primary school students will receive 100 KM, while high school students and regular university students will receive 150 KM each. The total budget for these student subsidies is approximately 18 million KM, covering over 115,000 beneficiaries.

Additionally, the municipality of Prozor-Rama has provided 400 KM in aid to each first-grade student to assist with school supplies. Officials have pledged to work on long-term solutions, including equipping schools with cooling systems by next year.
