Banjarmasin DPRD discusses new cooperative empowerment regulation

The Banjarmasin Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) has commenced discussions on a draft regional regulation (raperda) aimed at facilitating, protecting, and empowering cooperatives. The initiative seeks to establish a legal framework to support the development of cooperatives as drivers of the local people's economy.

According to city government data, there are currently 512 active cooperatives in Banjarmasin. Special committee member Eddy Junaidi stated that the regulation is essential to ensure these organizations can grow, become empowered, and provide benefits to the community. The draft regulation will specifically address critical aspects such as capital and partnerships.

The local effort aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s national program, the Merah Putih Village/Sub-district Cooperative program. The Banjarmasin City Government has expressed support for this initiative, with reports indicating that Merah Putih cooperatives have already been established in 52 sub-districts within the city.
