Banjska attack: Sentences issued and calls for justice three years later
Three years after the armed attack in Banjska on September 24, 2023, which resulted in the death of Kosovo police officer Afrim Bunjaku, legal proceedings and commemorations continue. In April 2026, the Basic Court in Pristina issued sentences for three individuals involved in the attack: Blagoje Spasojeviq and Vladimir Toliq received life imprisonment, while Dushan Maksimoviq was sentenced to 30 years.
The Kosovo Special Prosecutor's Office has indicted Milan Radoicic and 44 others for terrorism and crimes against the constitutional order. Prime Minister Albin Kurti has characterized the group as being organized, directed, and financed by Belgrade, identifying Radoicic as the group's leader. While Radoicic was questioned in Serbia following the attack, he remains free in Serbia, a situation that has drawn criticism from the European Union and the embassies of the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany, all of whom have called for his prosecution.
Kosovo officials and international diplomats have used the anniversary to honor Bunjaku's sacrifice and reiterate the demand for full accountability for all perpetrators involved in the incident.
