Bank Al-Maghrib reduces card payment commissions to 0.5%

Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM) has announced a reduction in the maximum commission cap for transactions made with Moroccan bank cards within the country. Effective October 1, 2026, the maximum commission rate will be lowered to 0.5%, down from the previous cap of 0.65%.

The central bank has also established a specific rate of 0.15% for transactions involving local neighborhood businesses and electronic government services (e-Gov). For card-issuing banks, the commission is set at 0.15% for local merchants and 0.5% for other commercial categories.

This policy aims to encourage the adoption of electronic payment methods by reducing costs for merchants. By lowering the financial barrier to using electronic payment terminals (TPE), the central bank expects to increase the availability of digital payment options, providing greater convenience and security for consumers in their daily transactions.
