Bank Indonesia appoints Destry Damayanti as first female Governor
Destry Damayanti has been sworn in as the 17th Governor of Bank Indonesia for the 2026–2031 term, making history as the first woman to lead the nation’s central bank. With over three decades of experience in economics and financial regulation, Damayanti aims to maintain economic stability and resilience amidst global geopolitical tensions and technological disruptions.
In the broader banking sector, the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) has advised depositors to ensure their savings are protected by adhering to the ‘3T’ requirements: deposits must be recorded in bank books, interest rates must not exceed LPS guarantee limits, and customers must not engage in criminal activities that harm the bank. LPS confirmed that all 105 commercial banks and over 1,400 rural banks in Indonesia are covered under these protections.
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s digital banking sector is seeing growth in net interest income (NII). PT Krom Bank Indonesia Tbk reported a 79% year-on-year increase in NII to Rp 1.60 trillion as of July 2026, driven by aggressive credit expansion. The bank’s credit disbursement rose 53% to Rp 11.29 trillion, while third-party funds surged 111% compared to the previous year.
