Bank Indonesia boosts digital payment adoption for UMKM in Sulawesi and East Java
Bank Indonesia’s regional branches are accelerating digital payment use among micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM). In Makassar, the Bank’s South Sulawesi office helped launch the Wastra Heritage Market 2026, part of the South Sulawesi Creative Festival, urging creative‑sector businesses to adopt digital payment systems and expand market reach.
In Malang, the Bank’s East Java branch reported a 166 % year‑on‑year increase in QRIS transaction volume across seven districts. Head of the Malang office, Indra Kuspriyadi, described QRIS as a “golden bridge” for UMKM to join the formal financial ecosystem. Deputy Head Prof. Rifki Ismal praised the system as a monumental national payment innovation recognized abroad.
