Bank Indonesia consumer confidence May 2026 stays optimistic despite dip

Bank Indonesia’s May 2026 consumer confidence survey showed the Index of Consumer Confidence (IKK) at 120.9, keeping it in optimistic territory (above 100) but down from April’s 123.0. The Index of Consumer Expectations (IEK) ticked up slightly to 129.7, driven by stronger expectations for job availability and business activity.

The Index of Current Economic Conditions (IKE) fell to 112.2 from 116.5, reflecting weaker readings on current income, job availability and durable‑goods purchases. Debt‑to‑income ratio rose to 10.2% from 9.7%, while the saving‑to‑income ratio slipped to 17.5% from 18.2%. Optimism remained highest among respondents spending over Rp5 million (IKK 124.6) and those aged 20‑30 (IKK 129.1). The government is also discussing a stimulus package to offset rising Pertamax fuel prices.
