Bank Indonesia launches Indonesian Credit Card and expands QRIS 0% MDR

Bank Indonesia and the Indonesian Payment System Association (ASPI) have launched the Indonesian Credit Card (KKI) for the retail segment. This new domestic payment instrument is designed to strengthen national payment system independence and reduce reliance on foreign principal networks. Initially, the KKI will be available in digital formats integrated into mobile banking applications, serving as a funding source for QRIS transactions via scan, tap, or without scanning methods. Future developments include online payment capabilities and the eventual release of physical cards.

Alongside this launch, Bank Indonesia announced an expansion of the 0% Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) for QRIS transactions. Effective October 1, 2026, the 0% MDR policy will apply to all merchant categories for transactions up to Rp100,000. This is an expansion from the previous policy that primarily targeted micro-enterprises. Additionally, micro-enterprises (UMI) will continue to benefit from a 0% MDR for QRIS transactions up to a higher threshold of Rp500,000.
