Bank Indonesia plans to use QRIS transaction data for MSME credit scoring
Bank Indonesia (BI) intends to utilize Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) transaction data as a reference for credit assessments for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). BI Governor Destry Damayanti stated that digital transaction data can help business owners who lack formal financial statements or banking credit histories build a financial track record.
As of the third quarter of 2026, BI reported 70.6 million QRIS users and 49.4 million merchants, approximately 97 percent of whom are MSMEs. While transaction data—such as frequency and sales value—can assist in profiling potential debtors, BI emphasized that it does not automatically guarantee credit eligibility. Financial institutions must still evaluate repayment capacity, existing obligations, and business risks.
In related local developments, BRI Branch Office Yogyakarta Cik Ditiro is promoting digital adoption by socializing QRIS usage among MSME merchants at Kranggan Market in Yogyakarta to facilitate cashless transactions.
