Bank Indonesia maintains interest rate at 5.75 percent

Bank Indonesia has decided to maintain its benchmark interest rate at 5.75 percent to support rupiah stability and keep inflation within the target range of 2.5 percent plus or minus 1 percent. To further bolster the currency and liquidity, the central bank has expanded hedging premium incentives to 12.5 percent, now including bank foreign loans and foreign direct investment (FDI).

In the financial markets, the Indonesia Composite Index (IHSG) rose 1.68 percent to reach the 6,501 level, driven largely by the commodity and mining sectors. Foreign investors recorded a net buy of Rp680.5 billion. Additionally, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) is set to implement a new policy on September 7, 2026, lowering the minimum stock price from Rp50 to Rp1 to enhance market flexibility and price discovery.

Regarding the gold market, the government is promoting the development of a national bullion ecosystem. Minister Airlangga Hartarto has encouraged the movement of an estimated 1,800 tons of public gold holdings into formal financial instruments through the newly launched Indonesia Bullion Market Association (IBMA).
