Bank Indonesia sees June consumer confidence fall, retail sales hold up

Bank Indonesia released its June 2026 Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) at 117.8, down from 120.9 in May but still above the 100‑point optimism threshold. The decline was accompanied by a still‑optimistic Current Economic Condition Index (109.2) and Consumer Expectation Index (126.4). According to Bank Indonesia communication head Denny Prakoso, “Survei Konsumen Bank Indonesia pada Juni 2026 mengindikasikan keyakinan konsumen terhadap kondisi ekonomi tetap terjaga.”

The central bank also projected the June 2026 real retail sales index at 221.6, implying a modest 0.8% month‑to‑month decline, less severe than May’s 1.5% drop and far better than April’s 11.6% contraction. Growth is expected to be supported by the start of the school‑holiday period and lingering demand from recent religious festivals, with strong performance in auto parts, accessories and household goods. “Perbaikan kinerja penjualan dipengaruhi dimulainya periode libur sekolah,” Prakoso added.
