Bank Jatim opens Balikpapan branch to target IKN economic opportunities
Bank Jatim has officially opened a new branch in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, marking its 50th branch. The expansion aims to strengthen economic cooperation between East Java and East Kalimantan while tapping into the business opportunities presented by the development of the new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN).
East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, who inaugurated the office alongside East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas'ud, noted that Balikpapan’s strategic position as a trade and connectivity hub makes it ideal for supporting regional and national economic growth. The move follows aspirations from East Kalimantan-based communities from East Java expressed during a 2024 trade and investment mission.
Khofifah emphasized the importance of providing financing access for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the region. She also suggested that Bank Jatim explore potential consortiums with state-owned and private banks to manage large-scale projects in East Kalimantan.
