Bank Negara Malaysia: West Asia conflict risks remain manageable

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has stated that the implications of the West Asia conflict on the nation’s financial stability remain manageable. While the conflict serves as a significant downside risk to the global economic outlook by disrupting commodity supplies and strategic trade routes, Malaysia's financial system maintains high resilience.

According to BNM, the country has limited direct credit or funding exposure to the West Asia region. Instead, potential impacts are expected to transmit through the real economy and global financial markets, specifically via increased costs for energy, logistics, and other inputs. These factors could pressure business profit margins and contribute to supply-side pressures and global market volatility.

Despite these risks, BNM noted that domestic business conditions remain stable, supported by robust domestic demand and investment activities. The financial system, including banks and insurers, continues to hold strong financial buffers. As of June, the business loan impairment ratio stood at 2.8 per cent, indicating sound borrowing quality.
