Bank of Agriculture partners to support Nigerian livelihoods
The Bank of Agriculture (BOA) has entered into a partnership with Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to transition vulnerable citizens from humanitarian aid to sustainable livelihoods. Through a Memorandum of Understanding, the initiative aims to connect beneficiaries of social protection programs with agricultural finance, productive inputs, and enterprise support.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, noted that the National Social Register includes approximately 20 million vulnerable households. The ministry intends to use this verified database to target support more effectively and reduce waste within humanitarian programs.
In a related agricultural initiative, BOA has partnered with agribusiness firm Agrolog Ltd to distribute 3,217 bags of ginger rhizomes to farmers in the Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State. BOA funded the procurement, while Agrolog coordinated beneficiary profiling and distribution. The project also includes the provision of organic fertilizer and extension services to support successful ginger production.
