Bank of America extends $520 million credit line to OpenAI ahead of trillion‑dollar IPO
Bank of America has provided OpenAI with a $520 million credit line, the bank’s first loan to the AI company and a move that makes BofA one of OpenAI’s largest lenders. The financing follows BofA’s broader involvement in AI capital markets, where it has helped raise nearly $500 billion for AI‑related firms since 2025 and is positioning itself for advisory roles on the upcoming IPOs of OpenAI and rival Anthropic.
OpenAI filed a confidential S‑1 with the U.S. SEC and is targeting a valuation of more than $1 trillion for its initial public offering, which could occur as early as this year. In parallel, the company announced a senior “Subject Matter Expert, Investment Banking” role with a salary of $185‑$205 k plus equity, signaling a push to deepen its capabilities in finance‑sector AI applications.
CEO Sam Altman is slated to discuss the IPO on CNBC, where he will also address related topics such as the Worldcoin (WLD) token’s upcoming token‑unlock schedule and the firm’s engagement with U.S. regulators on AI safety. The combined financing, hiring and public‑market preparations underscore OpenAI’s transition from a research nonprofit to a capped‑profit entity poised for one of the most anticipated stock‑market debuts in history.
