Bank of America warns of high tech bubble risk
Bank of America strategists have warned that U.S. technology equities currently exhibit the highest bubble risk among global asset classes. The bank's proprietary Bubble Risk Indicator highlights that the recent surge in the Nasdaq 100 Index is driven by a narrow group of artificial intelligence-related companies, a condition described by analysts as a “classic feature of bubbles building” that often persists until a market correction occurs.
To manage this risk, strategists Arjun Goyal, Riddhi Prasad, and Benjamin Bowler suggest that investors use equity derivatives rather than direct stock ownership. Specifically, they recommend utilizing call option spreads on the Invesco QQQ Trust ETF to capture potential upside while capping downside exposure. This approach allows investors to participate in the current momentum while mitigating the impact of a potential sudden pullback in tech shares.
