Bank of Canada unveils new 20-dollar banknote featuring King Charles III

The Bank of Canada has unveiled a new 20-dollar banknote featuring the portrait of King Charles III. This marks the first time a British monarch has appeared on Canadian currency in over seven decades.

The new banknote utilizes a vertical format and incorporates floral and leaf motifs, reflecting the King’s commitment to environmental causes. The design also includes emblems representing the various provinces and territories of Canada. On the reverse side, the note features the Vimy Ridge memorial in France, commemorating Canadian participation in the First World War.

According to the central bank, elements of the design were selected following consultations with an advisory body representing Indigenous peoples. The new currency is expected to enter circulation by early 2027.
