Bank of England Governor identifies AI and robotics as critical for UK growth
Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey stated that artificial intelligence and robotics are “critical” sources for driving the faster productivity and economic growth required in the United Kingdom.
Speaking at the Federal Reserve’s annual conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Bailey noted that the UK’s growth trajectory differs from that of the United States. Regarding inflation, Bailey observed that second-round effects, such as wage demands and retail price increases, appear “quite subdued” at present. He noted a softening in the labor market and emphasized that the Bank of England remains committed to returning inflation to its 2% target.
UK Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation reached 2.9% in July, driven partly by energy price increases. The Bank of England has maintained interest rates at 3.75% since December to manage price pressures.
