Bank of England selects wildlife for new banknotes
The Bank of England has announced the animal species that will feature on future banknotes, following a public consultation process. The selected species include barn owls, buff-tailed bumblebees, hedgehogs, and Atlantic puffins.
Rhys Phillips has recently taken up the role of Chief Cashier and Director of Notes at the Bank of England. His responsibilities will include the delivery and circulation of these new banknotes, which will feature the chosen wildlife alongside his signature.
The RSPCA has welcomed the decision, noting that the inclusion of these animals on national currency presents an opportunity to promote nature and wildlife awareness. The Bank of England selected the Atlantic puffin to represent marine species after the initial public voting process.
