Bank of Ghana Allows University Students to Observe Monetary Policy Process
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) launched the Monetary Policy Committee Educational Observership Programme (MPC‑EOP) during its 131st Monetary Policy Committee meeting, inviting a group of University of Ghana students to observe the policy‑making process. Participants received an orientation on the Bank’s mandate and Ghana’s monetary‑policy framework, then attended technical presentations covering inflation, macroeconomic developments, the external sector, financial markets, agriculture and other data considered before a rate decision.
Governor Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama said the initiative aims to demystify monetary policy, strengthen public understanding and trust, and bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical policymaking. Students also observed the post‑meeting press briefing and engaged in a discussion with the Governor to learn how the Committee’s rigorous analysis informs the benchmark interest‑rate decision.
