Bank of Ghana and Central Bank of Liberia strengthen payment systems cooperation
The Bank of Ghana and the Central Bank of Liberia are deepening their technical cooperation to strengthen Liberia’s financial infrastructure. During a visit to the Bank of Ghana headquarters in Accra on October 1, 2026, a Liberian delegation led by Executive Governor Henry F. Saamoi met with officials to review areas of collaboration under a Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this year.
A primary focus of the discussions was the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS). The Liberian delegation expressed specific interest in learning from Ghana’s experience regarding the processes, institutional arrangements, and implementation lessons of GhIPSS to assist in developing Liberia’s own payment systems framework and digital financial ecosystem.
Matilda Asante-Asiedu, Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, reaffirmed her institution’s commitment to providing sustained technical assistance and knowledge sharing. The partnership aims to promote capacity building and regional cooperation to foster resilient and efficient financial systems across Africa.
