Bank of Ghana Keeps Policy Rate at 14% Amid Inflation Concerns
The Bank of Ghana’s Monetary Policy Committee unanimously voted to retain the policy rate at 14% during its 131st meeting, citing an uncertain inflation outlook, rising external risks and the ongoing Middle‑East conflict. Six of the seven committee members voted for the hold; Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama did not cast a vote, as required only in the case of a tie.
Analysts, including Isaac Kwasi Mensah of SIC Financial Services, said the decision signals stability and could bolster confidence in the Ghana Stock Exchange, allowing investors to weigh equities against fixed‑income assets with greater certainty.
The central bank noted that recent upticks in headline and core inflation appear temporary, but warned that premature easing could reverse price‑stability gains while tightening could curb credit growth and slow momentum.
