Bank of Ghana pushes for financial resilience and digital payment oversight

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) is prioritizing the restoration of public confidence and the strengthening of the nation's financial resilience. During recent stakeholder engagements, central bank representatives emphasized the importance of transparency and open dialogue to bridge information gaps regarding policy decisions and strategic priorities.

In a related push for stability, the BoG is calling for tighter regulation and supervision of digital payment systems across West Africa. Speaking at a regional course organized by the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM) in Accra, BoG officials highlighted that the rapid expansion of digital financial services and virtual assets necessitates stronger regulatory frameworks.

Clarence Blay, Director of the Payment Systems Department at the BoG, noted that as digital transactions become central to daily economic activities, protecting payment infrastructure is critical to maintaining public trust and defending against emerging cyber threats.
