Bank of Piraeus and UNHCR graduate 30 refugee women from Greece's Refugee Women Academy

Thirty refugee women completed the Refugee Women Academy in Greece, receiving certificates in kitchen assistance, hotel services and coffee expertise. The graduation ceremony was attended by representatives of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Bank of Piraeus, the NGO METAdrasi and the Greek branch of the International Women Coffee Alliance (IWCA).

The Academy, launched in 2023 by Bank of Piraeus and UNHCR under the bank’s EQUALL corporate‑responsibility programme, has trained 273 refugee women to date. It provides child‑care services during classes, allowing mothers to participate fully. Bank of Piraeus officials highlighted that nearly one in three graduates secured employment within six months of completing the programme, underscoring its impact on economic independence and social integration.
