Alicante launches alcohol-free leisure initiatives for youth
The Alicante City Council has introduced a new initiative aimed at providing alcohol-free leisure alternatives for young people. Under the project titled ‘Las grandes historias no necesitan alcohol’ (Great stories do not need alcohol), the local Department of Education is working to prevent alcohol consumption by promoting positive social, cultural, and sporting activities.
To design these proposals, the council organized a participatory session involving diverse stakeholders, including teenagers, parents, educators, social associations, and institutional representatives. The goal is to utilize public spaces to create new ways for adolescents to meet and celebrate without alcohol being the central focus. The project will continue in the coming months with participatory dynamics directed at 16-year-olds in secondary schools and local associations.
