BBVA overhauls executive leadership, appoints new Mexico head and CFO
BBVA announced a comprehensive reshuffle of its senior management that will take effect on 1 September. The changes affect roughly ten strategic areas, including the creation of a new Institutional Engagement unit led by Mario Pardo. José Luis Elechiguerra will become country manager of BBVA Mexico, replacing Eduardo Osuna, who will move to the chair of the bank’s Board of Directors. Gonzalo Rodríguez has been appointed chief financial officer, succeeding Luisa Gómez Bravo. The bank also confirmed the retirement of Jaime Serra Puche as board president at age 75, with Eduardo Osuna slated to succeed him. These moves follow the failed hostile takeover attempt of Sabadell a year earlier and are framed as part of BBVA’s effort to accelerate its transformation around artificial intelligence.
The reorganisation is an internal promotion campaign; all new appointees come from within BBVA. The restructuring simplifies reporting lines, integrates compliance and non‑financial risk functions under a single global risk management area, and is intended to position the group for a new growth cycle in a rapidly changing market.
