Bank Windhoek cancer project raises record N$4 million

Bank Windhoek’s Cancer Apple Project has raised a record N$4 million for the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN), bringing the total funds raised since the initiative's inception in 2000 to N$42.4 million.

The funds will support CAN’s outreach, screening, awareness, and patient-support programs. This contribution arrives as Namibia faces significant public health challenges, with an estimated 4,205 new cancer diagnoses annually. Common types include breast, cervical, and prostate cancers. Additionally, the Namibia National Cancer Registry reports approximately 136 cancer diagnoses among children and adolescents each year, including leukaemia and kidney tumours.

CAN Chief Executive Rolf Hansen stated that the contribution will help strengthen awareness and promote earlier detection. Bank Windhoek Managing Director James Chapman noted that the project demonstrates the impact of businesses and communities mobilizing resources to address social challenges.
