Caixa Econômica Federal employees launch national indefinite strike

Employees of Caixa Econômica Federal have launched a national strike for an indefinite period, following the rejection of a new collective labor agreement. The primary point of contention is the 'Saúde Caixa' health assistance plan, with workers protesting proposed increases in employee contributions to the plan.

While the strike is national for Caixa, the movement at Banco do Brasil is partial, occurring only in union bases that rejected the recent collective bargaining agreement. The new agreement, signed by Fenaban, includes full inflation replacement and a real wage increase of 0.6% for 2026 and 2027.

The strike may impact real estate financing, as processes requiring human analysis—such as credit approval, document verification, and contract signing—could face delays. Digital channels and ATMs are expected to remain operational, but in-person services at many Caixa branches have been suspended.
