Bankers in Brazil face potential strikes over salary negotiations

Bank workers in Brazil are facing potential industrial action due to ongoing salary negotiations for 2026. In Rio Grande do Norte, workers may begin a strike as early as Wednesday following an impasse in collective bargaining. While the National Federation of Banks (Fenaban) has presented a final salary proposal, labor organizations remain divided on the next steps. The Confederation of National Workers in Credit Companies (Contraf-CUT) has advised unions to approve the proposal in upcoming assemblies, whereas the National Confederation of Bankers (Contec) is awaiting formal documentation to conduct a detailed analysis.

In Paraíba, the Sintrafi-PB union recently held celebrations for Banker's Day, marking the historical 1951 strike. However, union leaders emphasized the need for continued mobilization, noting that the national campaign has yet to reach a satisfactory agreement with banks, which could lead to further strikes.
