Banking errors reported in China involving ATM transactions

Two separate incidents in China have highlighted issues with ATM transactions involving significant sums of money.

In Hubei province, a man named Xu attempted to deposit 20,000 NDT (approximately 77.4 million VND) into his own account via an ICBC ATM. Due to a partial name display on the screen, he mistakenly transferred the funds to a stranger's account. After realizing the error through subsequent test transactions, Xu reported the matter to the police and attempted to contact the recipient via WeChat, offering a portion of the funds as compensation for the trouble caused by the error.

In Hangzhou, a woman named Zou reported a discrepancy after attempting to deposit 30,000 NDT (approximately 116 million VND) into her savings account. After an ATM rejected a stack of bills, she processed the remaining cash and deposited the rejected portion at a different machine. Ultimately, her account only reflected a total of 20,000 NDT, leaving approximately 10,000 NDT unaccounted for. Following her complaint, the bank's data operations center investigated and eventually credited the missing funds to her account.
