Banking experts warn of new personalized physical card fraud scheme

Experts are warning of a highly sophisticated targeted fraud scheme involving physical mail. Scammers send victims a bank letter alongside a new payment card personalized with the recipient's name. The scheme relies on the victim expecting a replacement card due to an expiring one.

To activate the card, the letter instructs the recipient to scan a QR code and enter electronic banking credentials on a fraudulent website that mimics a legitimate bank page. This method is noted for its high level of personalization, as criminals must possess the victim's name, address, bank, and card expiration date to succeed. While similar incidents have been reported in Portugal, officials urge vigilance as the physical nature of the mail makes the deception difficult to detect.

Separately, the Click to Pay solution is being introduced to Lithuanian online stores to simplify the checkout process by allowing users to pay via a profile linked to their bank rather than manually entering card details.
