Banking procedures and security for check transactions
Banking procedures regarding checks require strict adherence to formalities to avoid transaction failures. A common reason for a check being refused at a teller window, even when the amount, date, and signature on the front are correct, is the lack of an endorsement—the mandatory signature on the back of the check.
For high-value transactions, banker's checks (chèques de banque) offer increased security. Unlike personal checks, which depend on the individual's available funds, a banker's check is issued by the financial institution itself after the required amount has been blocked in the client's account. This ensures the beneficiary that the funds are available, though users are advised to verify the check's authenticity via telephone with the issuing branch to protect against fraud or falsification.
