Bankipur Assembly By‑Election Nomination Rush Highlights Contest Between Jan Suraaj and BJP

Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, filed his nomination papers for the Bankipur Assembly by‑election in Patna on July 13, 2026, and said the contest was a referendum on the state’s NDA government and a call for political change. He outlined his party’s focus on quality education, jobs, infrastructure and transparent governance, and expressed confidence that voters were seeking a new alternative.

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate, Niroj Kumar Sinha, also lodged his nomination on the same day after an earlier BJP nominee withdrew. The high‑profile seat, previously held by BJP leader Nitish Naveen before he moved to the Rajya Sabha, pits Jan Suraaj against the BJP, with the Rashtriya Janata Dal also fielding a candidate. The by‑poll is seen as a litmus test ahead of Bihar’s upcoming state elections, drawing criticism from the Janata Dal (United) and extensive media coverage.

Voting is scheduled for 30 July, with results expected in early August, making the Bankipur contest a focal point of Bihar’s political landscape.
