Banks link high savings rates to investment and activity
Banks in the Czech Republic and Slovakia are increasingly linking high-interest savings rates to customer activity and investment behavior. In the Czech market, UniCredit Bank offers up to 4.3% annually, but requires at least 10 monthly card transactions and regular monthly investments of at least 2,000 CZK. Creditas and Raiffeisenbank follow similar models, offering higher rates for clients who engage in regular investing, while Česká spořitelna and ČSOB offer rates around 3.8%.
Financial analysts warn that advertised interest rates can be misleading. Key factors affecting actual returns include interest rate caps on specific amounts, the frequency of interest capitalization, and potential penalties for withdrawals. Additionally, fees for linked current accounts and tax obligations on interest earned can significantly reduce the net profit for savers.
