Banks warn against storing sensitive ID photos on mobile devices

The Vietnam Banks Association and BAC A BANK have issued warnings regarding high-tech crimes targeting mobile users. They advise against storing specific sensitive images on mobile devices to prevent identity theft and financial loss.

Users are urged to delete photos of both sides of citizen identity cards, passports, and both sides of bank or credit cards. Storing these images or sharing them via social media platforms creates vulnerabilities that allow hackers to impersonate individuals for unauthorized online loans or account takeovers.

Additional security recommendations include being cautious of suspicious links or QR codes, never sharing OTP/Smart OTP codes, and not providing CVV numbers or passwords to anyone, including individuals claiming to be bank employees. For physical transactions, customers should swipe their own cards rather than handing them to staff.
