Banksy artwork from Heathrow Airport to be auctioned in London
The street artist Banksy’s 2019 artwork, titled ‘Keep Ou T’, is scheduled for auction next month through Phillips as part of their Modern & Contemporary Art Auctions in London during Frieze Week. The piece is expected to generate up to 2.1 million euros.
The installation consists of a repurposed roller shutter from an EU arrival gate at Heathrow Airport. The design features the words ‘KEEP OUT’, though the letter ‘T’ is detached and being used by one of Banksy’s signature rats as a tool to break a padlock on the gate. The work is viewed as a political statement against Brexit, echoing the artist's previous anti-Brexit works, such as a 2017 mural in Dover.
