Banksy-designed Röyksopp vinyl sells for £3,720 at auction
A rare vinyl edition of the 2001 Röyksopp debut album, ‘Melody A. M.’, featuring custom artwork by Banksy, has sold for £3,720 at Wessex Auction Rooms.
In 2002, the Norwegian musical duo provided Banksy with 100 blank record sleeves for customization. The artist used a bespoke stencil to spray-paint the sleeves green. According to auction expert Martin Hughes, the high sale price was primarily driven by the Banksy artwork rather than the musical popularity of Röyksopp or the physical condition of the record, which had been played.
A previous version of the album with Banksy-drawn covers sold for over $10,000 on Discogs in 2019, marking it as one of the most expensive vinyl records in history.
