Bankura: CJP volunteer's father dies after alleged mob attack

A volunteer for the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), Sheikh Abdul Hafeez, and his father, Janab Mafik, were victims of a violent mob attack in Bankura, West Bengal. The incident occurred after Hafeez visited Karisunda Primary School to document its poor infrastructure as part of the CJP’s ‘School Thik Karo’ campaign.

According to allegations from the CJP, armed individuals identified as local BJP workers entered the residence, seized Hafeez’s phone, and attempted to force him to delete videos or record an apology. During the assault, Janab Mafik sustained severe head injuries and died on Saturday.

The CJP has accused the BJP of targeting the family for highlighting government school conditions. In response, BJP spokesperson Keya Ghosh stated the party would take action if investigations prove involvement, while accusing political rivals of attempting to malign them.

Police have detained several suspects, including local BJP officials Astam Majhi and Abani Majhi. While the CJP demands justice and capital punishment for the perpetrators, local authorities have noted that investigations are ongoing following a formal complaint filed by the victim's wife.
