Banky W marks first anniversary as pastor following 2023 election loss

Nigerian musician and entrepreneur Bankole Wellington, known as Banky W, has marked his first anniversary as a pastor, reflecting on how his 2023 political defeat influenced his spiritual path.

Wellington previously contested the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the Peoples Democratic Party. He shared that the loss was a deeply difficult experience that led him to seek spiritual guidance. He noted that he initially struggled to reconcile his interests in politics, entertainment, and business with a potential calling in ministry.

He currently serves as an associate pastor and global ambassador at We Are Union Church, while also acting as a teacher and leader at Union College. Wellington stated that he continues his work as a filmmaker, musician, and entrepreneur, viewing his new roles not as a departure from his previous life, but as an expansion of his responsibilities.
