Banqiao car crash hits fire hydrant near campaign headquarters

A car accident occurred in Banqiao District on the evening of the 11th, when a driver struck a fire hydrant near the intersection of Hansheng West Road and Yangming Street. The collision caused the hydrant to tilt and spray water, leading to significant flooding on the road surface.

The driver, identified as a man surnamed Huang, reportedly failed to notice the hydrant while attempting to turn after starting from a red light. Police confirmed that Huang’s blood alcohol content was 0.

The incident gained online attention because the crash took place directly in front of the joint campaign headquarters for political candidates Li Sichuan and Chou Wei-han. This proximity sparked political debate among netizens, with some interpreting the water spray as a positive omen and others using it to mock the candidates.
