Banque de France reports 1.241 billion euros in payment fraud for 2025

According to a 2025 report from the Observatoire de la sécurité des moyens de paiement (OSMP) published by the Banque de France, payment fraud reached 1.241 billion euros in 2025. While the total number of fraudulent operations decreased by 7.6%, the total amount lost rose by 3.8%.

Remote card payments and online bank transfers are the primary drivers of these losses. Remote card fraud accounted for approximately 29.5% of the total fraud amount, largely driven by internet purchases. However, the fraud rate for these transactions is decreasing due to strengthened security measures and strong authentication. Online transfers represent another significant category, accounting for 37% of fraudulent amounts.
