Santo Domingo hosts XI Energy Week for regional integration
The XI Energy Week, organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) and the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Energy and Mines, has commenced in Santo Domingo. The event, running until October 9, brings together representatives from 27 member countries, international organizations, and private sector actors to discuss regional energy integration.
The summit focuses on ensuring reliable and affordable energy supplies, expanding infrastructure, and financing the regional energy transition. Discussions aim to address challenges such as climate change, geopolitical volatility, and structural vulnerabilities in the Caribbean.
During the opening, Dominican Minister of Energy and Mines Joel Santos emphasized the need for increased regional cooperation, investment, and innovation. He noted that while each nation's transition will vary based on its specific resources, sharing technology and infrastructure is vital for building resilient systems. He also highlighted the Dominican Republic's progress, noting an increase in installed capacity from 4,921 megawatts in 2020 to 7,120 megawatts in 2025, with significant growth in solar and wind energy.
