Banská Bystrica begins roof reconstruction at Medený hámok

The city of Banská Bystrica has commenced a comprehensive roof reconstruction of the workshops located within the Medený hámok historical site. The project, which began in late July 2026, is aimed at preserving the historical and artisanal heritage of the building while enhancing its potential for regional tourism development.

The construction works, valued at approximately 398,000 euros following a public tender, are funded by the Tourism Support Fund. The renovation process will involve several stages: restoring the roof truss, replacing the roofing material and drainage systems, and installing new lightning protection.

To comply with heritage conservation requirements, the new roof will maintain its original historical shape. Architects and specialists have designed the use of specific insulation materials to ensure the structure meets modern standards while respecting its historical character. The reconstruction is expected to take approximately seven months, though the final scope may be adjusted based on the condition of the masonry discovered during the removal of debris.
