Banská Bystrica Roosevelt Hospital to become university hospital

The Slovak government has decided to transform the F. D. Roosevelt Hospital in Banská Bystrica into a university hospital. This decision includes the establishment of a new medical faculty within the framework of the Slovak Medical University.

Prime Minister Robert Fico announced the move during a government meeting in Kriváň, noting that the facility is being rebuilt as a super-modern European quaternary hospital. The project involves significant investment, with approximately 350 million euros expected from the Recovery Plan for construction, and an additional 200 to 250 million euros planned for internal equipment.

The first part of the hospital, focusing on infectious diseases, is scheduled to open in early 2028, with the remaining sections expected to open in January 2029. The new medical faculty aims to begin admitting students as early as the upcoming academic year, following the development of an implementation plan by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education.
