Banská Bystrica secures 4 million euros for urban revitalization

The city of Banská Bystrica has secured 4 million euros in EU funds from the Slovakia 2021–2027 Program to revitalize public spaces in the Sásová district. The funding is part of the broader ‘Green Housing Estates’ project, which aims to renovate approximately 50 hectares of public space with a total estimated value of 20 million euros.

Specific improvements include the revitalization of Jelšový hájik, where the city plans to repair walkways and bridges, improve water retention, plant new greenery, and install new lighting, benches, and natural playgrounds. The project also targets the Magurská and Krivánska streets, focusing on renewing walkways and stairs to create a barrier-free pedestrian and cycling connection between the hills of Sásová.

Mayor Ján Nosko noted that the revitalization of Jelšový hájik is essential to ensure the area remains a pleasant and safe ‘green lung’ for residents. The project was developed in close cooperation with local citizens to address long-standing infrastructure issues.
