Banskobystrická Perla brewery announces closure

The Banskobystrická Perla brewery has announced its closure, marking the end of its second attempt to operate a craft brewery in the center of Banská Bystrica. The brewery, which traces its history back to 1992, had reopened in August 2021 after a previous iteration closed in 2016.

Management cited a difficult market environment, stating that ‘beer is no longer selling as it used to.’ The closure comes amid what is described as one of the most significant crises in the European and Slovak beer markets in recent decades. The owners are currently considering whether to sell the facility or lease the brewing technology.
