Banskobystrická Perla brewery announces closure
Banskobystrická Perla, Slovakia’s first craft brewery, has announced it is ceasing operations. The brewery, which originally opened in 1992, had previously closed in 2016 before being revived by new owners in 2021.
The decision to shut down is attributed to declining demand and changing consumer habits. Management noted that beer sales have significantly decreased, making it difficult to maintain operations in the current market climate. The closure is seen as a reflection of broader challenges facing the European beer market, where consumption levels are facing downward pressure.
The future of the brewery's facilities remains uncertain. Owners are currently considering whether to lease the existing brewing technology and equipment to another party or to sell the production assets entirely.
